Frequently Asked Questions

What is a deductible buy-back?

A deductible buy-back is a supplemental policy that reduces what your client pays out of pocket after a covered loss. It works alongside the current coverage, paying toward the gap between the primary policy’s deductible and a lower out-of-pocket amount your client chooses to retain.

How is a deductible buy-back different from my existing policy?

The primary policy still covers the loss itself. The buy-back specifically targets the deductible, the amount your client owes before that primary coverage kicks in. For example, if the policy has a $25K deductible, a residential buy-back policy can reduce the out-of-pocket to as low as $2,500 after a covered loss, $5,000 for commercial.

Does this replace the current homeowners or commercial insurance?

No. A deductible buy-back is designed to work alongside the existing policy, not instead of it. Keep the current coverage as it is; the buy-back simply reduces the out-of-pocket exposure if a covered loss occurs.

How does a claim actually work?

The primary policy activates first and confirms the covered loss. The deductible buy-back then pays your client toward that primary policy’s deductible, bringing the net out-of-pocket cost down to the lower deductible they chose.

What types of properties are eligible?

Both residential and commercial properties qualify. On the residential side, standard forms are eligible, including HO3, HO5, HO6, and DP3 policies, along with state-sponsored wind coverages like TWIA (though manufactured and mobile homes are not eligible). On the commercial side, eligibility spans commercial properties and classes of business broadly, with coverage available for properties with a Total Insured Value starting as low as $230K.
